While “Apathy with 36%” rules West Lancashire, the Labour Leader, Cllr Ian Moran, will remain as Council Leader, but the various committees will be much more balanced across the three parties.
“West Lancashire Has A New Mayor! And “Our West Lancashire” is feeling elated! Our West Lancashire’s Cllr Gordon Johnson (Derby Ward) was elected by a majority of his fellow WLBC councillors at the WLBC’s Annual Meeting on 19th May).
“The electorate (all 36% of them who turned out) spoke loudly (or was it whimpered), while 64% stayed at home, from the recent election, and delivered a hung council. Now it is the 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗰𝗼-𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦.
“As Mayor, in the event of an equal split of votes in the council chamber, Gordon will get the deciding vote. Further details will follow, but the new make-up of WLBC means change is afoot. FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT: Our West Lancashire will always 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧”.
Aughton Park residents woke up to find one their two generally invisible, (parachuted in from homes in Halsall!) Conservative representatives, elected in 2019 in a 35% turnout, was Deputy Mayor, and, believe it or not, she will be Mayor next year unless Labour recover in the next elections.
Tory Wally Westley claimed “Well known locally, Denise (Hirrell) fought off the usual negative campaign from an independent”. Her interests, all unknown to Halsall residents, included “investment in drainage, roads and services” and it was suggested “Many local reisidents (sic) will recognise her from her time at Halsall Garage”!
The so-called “negative campaign of the Independent” stated he was “Proudly employed within our NHS for 20 years, who loves living in Halsall, residing in this great Parish for over 19 years. Parish Councillor for over 7 years, avid supporter of Halsall Against Fracking, NCL residents group, Moss Rd Traffic Group, Carr Moss Lane against large development, neighbourhood watch, flood groups and the setting up of an IDB (independent drainage board) and committed campaigner in protecting the green belt”. As he has said “Conservatives who state they are passionate about protecting the environment yet happily apply for permission to build luxury houses on [their own] greenbelt land has a rather large ‘whiff’ of hypocrisy and definitely displays double standards”.
Did Wally write “Tales of the Fiction House”?
We’ve never believed a word Wally says and we still don’t!
And what can we say about poor old Labour? Least said soonest mended? Meet the “Glums”,
as one of its elected members, Ron Cooper, was absent on the night, depriving his party of his support. We’ve yet to learn more. But their “rejections of nasty attack politics and false promises” reflected bitterness and disappointment at their own local performance and some national effect. Commiserations to Terry (Yank) Aldridge for being cruelly rejected as Mayor after the “coronavirus year” of his office ruined his glory and probably his charity work too.
