“Please be mindful to whom you answer your front door to. This week we have had a number of reports of unauthorised persons attempting to sell various products within the West Lancashire area. Authorised persons will always have official identification and have a prearranged appointment. If in doubt don’t open the door and call the company to check the identity of the person at your door”.
An urgent warning has been issued to elderly and vulnerable residents after suspicious leaflets were intercepted. South Ribble Borough Council said the leaflets, believed to be distributed by fraudsters, make ‘false claims’ that Covid-19 could be prevented by removing moss and dirt from outside your home. Tell the police.
The scammers also offer a “special rates for OAPs” on protective coatings. So far the leaflets have been reported by residents in Hoole and other areas of South Ribble.
Council bosses are warning residents and their families to be aware of the scam. If you know anybody who has received such a leaflet, or who may be vulnerable to fraud of this type, please warn them against getting in contact with any business making this claim.
