Encouragement For The West Lancashire Response To The Covid Pandemic

Public Health England reports that West Lancashire Ormskirk & Southport Hospitals NHS Trust notified 13 new infections today. The total is now 4,655, that’s 4,072.4 infections per 100,000 of the population.

No deaths were announced today by Ormskirk & Southport Hospitals NHS Trust for the second consecutive NHS daily update. Our community losses remain unchanged at 246 deaths.

West Lancashire is now one of five areas in Lancashire below the England average of 153.1 cases per 100,000 people. It comes as the UK’s coronavirus R rate fell to between 0.8-1.0 ahead of next week’s vaccine rollout. Last week, the R rate stood was between 0.9 and 1.0.

It’s the fourth week in a row the crucial value has dropped, likely as a result of the four-week national lockdown. The North West, which was the country’s Covid hotspot before the national lockdown, is now one of two areas with the lowest R rate.

In the latest hyper local data mapped by Public Health England, there were 26 Lancashire neighbourhoods possessing infection rates of less than 100 new cases per 100,000 people in the week to last Friday (November 27). At the same time, there were 28 local areas with infection rates higher than 300.

Locally, weekly cases indicate Bickerstaffe & Newburgh (suppressed infection rate data as there were less than 3 cases across the week). This is to protect individuals’ identities; Ormskirk Town & East 53.8, down 54.5% (5 new cases); Ormskirk North & West 60.1, down 54.5% (5 new cases); Skelmersdale West 62.5, down 73.3% (4 new cases); Rufford & Banks 65.9, down 44.4% (5 new cases).
