In a remarkable message to the residents of Burscough for whom flooding is a regular feature of their lives, the local flooding group has publicised a statement that exonerates them in their everlasting, ongoing, fight for those responsible for it. Too often the “authorities” have denied liability. But the admission announced today is proof that these monoliths that blight our lives can be defeated and held to account.
BFG Chairman Gavin Rattray
“CALLING ALL RESIDENTS AND VEHICLE OWNERS WHO SUFFERED DAMAGE OR LOSS BY FLOODING ON SCHOOL LANE ON THE 6TH OCTOBER OR RECENTLY BEFORE
United Utilities (UU), having finally finished its investigation, found their sewers were responsible and are encouraging anyone impacted to telephone UUs flood line on: 0345 672 3723
“Make sure you reference Burscough Flooding Groups (BFG) Case Number:
“UU believe they have now fixed the problem by cleaning silt out of their sewer. Whereas BFG are very doubtful and urging affected residents to still: Photograph any drain/sewer surcharge you witness and let BFG know. Telephone UUs flood line and ask UU to investigate every time you are affected. Claim compensation every time you are entitled.
“If residents don’t collectively impact on UUs business then it won’t ever fix its surcharging sewers!”.
This victory is significant for all those anywhere affected by these flood events, who should take note of this admission by United Utilities. They should report events, large or small, as BFG recommends, for the simple fact of evidence. Who knows, the water regulator will be notified of this UU guilt that just might change the course of liability, and that will be the size of the victory won by Burscough Flooding Group!
