West Lancashire has repeated its sad record of showing the county biggest daily rise in new coronavirus infections with 103 today, and the borough has now recorded 2,063 infections, that’s 1,804.8 per 100,000 of the population.
No coronavirus deaths were recorded today at the Ormskirk & Southport NHS Trust Hospitals. The total remains at 172 deaths.
A further 835 cases of coronavirus were recorded across the whole of Lancashire as negotiations continue between council leaders and the Government over upgrading the region to Tier 3.
Health officials have recommended Lancashire be moved into the toughest restrictions under the new three-tiered lockdown system.
The Joint Biosecurity Centre’s Gold Command are this evening said to have signed off on moving Lancashire from Tier 2 to Tier 3 long with Greater Manchester.
Downing Street will hold a meeting tomorrow morning when a final decision will be made with Health Secretary Matt Hancock expected to update MPs in the House of Commons at around 11.30am.
