In short, a small village catastrophe. Locals are probably aware that the old Spar shop premises (69 Bold Lane) has had approval to be converted into a wine bar. (WLBC Planning reference 2019/0896/FUL). Despite being ‘called in’ to be heard by the WLBC Planning Committee after concerns were raised by Ward Councillors, Aughton Parish Council and some residents, full planning permission was granted on 24 February 2020.
More recently you may have seen the closure of Sydney Huyton and Son (Butchers) at 71 – 75 Bold Lane, opposite the Co- op store. A planning application (WLBC Planning reference 2020/0837/FUL) was submitted on 10 September for those premises, consisting of 3 units, to be converted into a Cafe and a Micropub, together with accommodation above.
As residents you may have reservations about the suitability of not just one but especially two licensed premises at that location, which at best gets very congested due to the narrow width of Bold Lane and the parking bays outside that block. We also ‘flag up’ other accompanying concerns such as a possible increase in unsocial behaviour, noise and nuisance associated with licensed premises. Parking or lack of parking spaces will be a major issue.
The application is at a very early stage. Again, like the Spar application, it is likely to be ‘called in’ by Ward Councillors (meaning that it will have to go to the WLBC Planning Committee for decision, not just go through on a single Planning Officer’s decision.
