Improvement work to create a shared use footpath and cycleway between Ormskirk bus and rail stations has finished.
The footpath had been closed to the public since work began in January and West Lancashire Borough Council says it will now allow for easier social distancing as more shops start to reopen.
The scheme has been on the cards for a number of years and is part of the council’s efforts to encourage walking, cycling and greater use of public transport. It features a new surface from a sustainable, recycled material, a wider path, improved lighting, and a new handrail. The work was funded by developer contributions from developments at Edge Hill University, as well as some Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding.
Cllr Noel Delaney regularly helps litter pick in the area and said he was glad to see the work completed. Pic courtesy of Lancslive.
He said “It has taken many years of lobbying, letters, phone calls by me to get it done so I hope they put some rubbish bins along so I can put my brush and shovel away. I must say it looks fantastic”.
