is reporting that the family of a West Lancashire Conservative party member are calling for the resignation of its leader, after he wrongly attributed her death to the coronavirus.
Cllr David Westley relayed information about the death of Joan Spencer, a longstanding party member who sadly died of cancer, in an email as she was “a victim of the coronavirus”. The email was then reposted onto Facebook by another member and shared by others.
Mrs Spencers’ family were saddened that the Westley email gave false information that referred to her as a Covid-19 carrier. Westley and the other party member allegedly were “more than reluctant to rectify their mistake”.
Westley is reported by the Advertiser as feeling it was inappropriate to issue a public statement with an apology. The family suggest they are in a horrendous situation and that it “set off panic in the village because people may think Mrs Spencer was a carrier and her family members may have it”.
