Would You Like To Be An Absent Councillor?

You can be a true representative of the electorate who turned out to vote you into office, or you can be persistently absent and not turn out to do what you promised.

In the case of the incumbent member for Aughton & Downholland, until 8 May, Tory Sam Currie seems not to meet the criteria for “member” but rather as “absentee member”.

WLBC website source states “Meeting Attendance Of Councillor Samuel Currie 20/09/2019 – 14/03/2020. Total expected attendances: 10. Present as expected: 2=20%. Apologies received: 3=38% of absences. Absent (incl. apologies): 8=80%”.

In a recent tweet Cllr Currie stated “Are we all supposed to just act like this is normal behaviour? I think the standard British response is a sigh and say “nob head” on the exhale, right?”

Yes, of course, and the standard Aughton & Downholland response is to sigh and say “is this nob head taking the 100% councillor allowance for 20% attendance” right?
