West Lancashire Has The Worst-Maintained Roads In The County

Figures Released By County Council

have been obtained by WLBC council Independents Our West Lancashire

and they show that “in the 3 months to the end of January more highways defects were reported in West Lancashire than in any other Lancashire Borough. In total 860 highways defects were reported in the period. The next worst Borough reported less than 500 and the best only 261″.

The figures are similar to 4 years ago when Our West Lancashire last asked the question. West Lancashire had the worst maintained roads in Lancashire then as well. This week, Our West Lancashire candidates spoke out saying this showed the long-term neglect of our area from the main parties.

David Gallagher from Aughton and Downholland ward said “As Borough Council candidates, the issue we get most comments about is potholes and the condition of West Lancashire’s roads. It’s frustrating as this is not dealt with by the local council but by the County Council in Preston. We complete many pothole reports and the situation is getting worse if anything”.

Neil Pye who is standing in Knowsley ward in May added, “We have now asked a further question of the county council about how much is spent on local roads compared to other parts of Lancashire. As our roads were the worst in Lancashire 4 years ago and remain the worst in Lancashire now, it does suggest that the county council might not be allocating money to the worst roads in the county.”

Scott ward’s Blair Piggin concluded “Potholes are damaging the cars of local residents on a daily basis at the present time and the repairs the county council make are of poor quality and often only last a week or two. Not only is it doubtful that West Lancashire is getting its fair share of road maintenance but the value for money of the repairs must be questioned. What are our local county councillors from both the main parties doing to make sure West Lancashire roads are properly maintained?”

It seems that potholery will be a big factor in the May WLBC elections!
