Down At The Old Cock And Bull

The Aughton Parish Council minutes for March 2019 minutes

record “Progress was being made in the installation of Parish Council funded permanent solar powered SpID/Driver Feedback signs on Long Lane, Bold Lane & Prescot Road”.

Well, you can believe that if you want to. Speeding and the perception of harm it can cause has been an issue here for years. The APC is cash loaded yet wouldn’t spend on measures to help. They applied for other, borough, taxpayers to fund them. APC actually applied for help! With cash assets then of £109,000!

In March 2018 WLBC stated “A SPID capital application was received from Aughton Parish Council in February 2018, but no decision has been made on this application at this time”.

In July 2018 the WLBC stated “I can confirm that a decision was made to award grant funding to Aughton Parish Council for their SPID parish capital application on 23/5/18 and they were informed of this decision on the 25/5/18. The Borough Council will provide 50% match funding for this scheme with a maximum contribution of £3,000″.

No progress has been made either by the Aughton Parish Council or by the Lancashire County Council to provide the SPIDs as road safety features in Long Lane Aughton and the excuse made recently by the Aughton Parish Council is “The review by LCC on SpID provision in the county is still ongoing”.

WLBC told me “The Borough Council’s terms and conditions for Parish Capital Grants require that schemes should be completed within two financial years and that the implementation is the responsibility of the Parish Council. We will continue to liaise with the Parish Council about this scheme but any detailed questions that you may have on its progress should be directed to the Parish Council”.

Meanwhile, the 3 useless Aughton & Downholland Tory councillors

have not solved the matter of the pavement on Prescot Road, near the junction with Town Green Lane. One of them “shared his frustration” about it a long time ago. This is the only pavement to and from Footpath 25 and that area for local residents to walk. This includes parents taking young children to the local primary school, and elderly people walking to the local surgery. It narrows to a foot or so. Yet it is simply ignored as a local problem. Hedges growing out of control is OK apparently. NB Some of the hedging has been trimmed, but is still obstructing wheelchairs and prams, as one local resident reports.

And, it is an eyesore, as seen here, with uncontrolled growth. Believe it or not, but the APC has “AGREED to enter Holt Green (Small Village Class) – £20 entry fee and Town Green (Medium Village Class) – £30 entry fee, in the “Lancashire Best Kept Village Competition”. The entry fee of £50 for both villages was approved (Section 137)”. You really couldn’t make it up!
