Falsified Petition

The other day we wrote about the “Revoke Article 50” petition

“Revoke Article 50” as being, to quote LCC Cllr Paul Greenall, “Utterly ridiculous and wide open to abuse. Last night I signed it as Joseph Stalin with a made up post code, tonight as Adolf Hitler with another made up post code. Both times it’s been accepted!” and this was ridiculed by a comment.

Well, the “Guido Fawkes” website

reported that “The petition saw a suspicious jump in signatures last night, with blatantly fake signatures arising everywhere from Russia, to Afghanistan, to North Korea. Tens of thousands of signatures have also come from EU states including Jean Claude Juncker’s tiny Luxembourg”. And “Signatures have even come from non-country ‘Western Sahara’, and Vatican City”.  All accepted.

Even worse, Guido himself received an update to the email address he used to sign as Jean-Claude Juncker from Iran, which tells you all you need to know about the veracity of all the signatures. Remain is the biggest orchestrated opposition to the biggest ever democratic vote, 17,410,742, in UK history. Will anyone ever vote again? Every election day will be a fools day from now on.

NB Labour MP Helen Jones says the petition to revoke Article 50 had 96% of its signatures from the UK, and the government digital service has automated and manual systems in place to restrict fraudulent activity. Ms Jones is raising this issue in response to a question from Tory MP Maggie Throup who said “democracy is at threat” by people from around the world signing e-petitions.

There is no proof of the “96%” claimed by Ms Jones. it’s a case of “statistics bloody statistics”.
