LCC, Rotten By Name, Rotten By Nature

Lancashire County Council is rotten, greedy, and discriminatory.

The County to which we West Lancastrians have paid £45,099,305 for 2018/19 holds our disabled residents in contempt by its attitude to those who require to use the early morning concession when travelling with their NoW card. The Champion has today published its own account.

Lancashire County Council, having been awarded the “Priorities In Order Award” proved itself to be rotten by nature after a Conservative Cabinet member is reputed to have claimed “Disabled people would appreciate that they need only carry a £1 coin rather than a lot of change”.

We reported on this in February

“The citation reads “Tory-led Lancashire County Council agreed to buy all councillors new iPhones at a cost of £38,000. They then voted to double bus fares for disabled passengers travelling during rush hour. The increase from 50p to £1 will raise £43,000 a year, the cost of the councillors’ new phones, plus £5,000 change”.

“Smug faces might be seen at County Hall after this news. Smug Tory members with their posh iPhones, smug Labour members also with their posh new iPhones they didn’t refuse. We wait to read how many Labour members are still using their old models as a matter of principle”.

LCC Cllr John Fillis has told the Champion today

“Is there any sign of empathy or understanding? No. One of the Conservative cabinet members at the time said that the disabled people would appreciate that they would only need to carry a £1 coin rather than a lot of change”.

Cllr Fillis needs to name and shame that Conservative cabinet member who should then be referred to the appropriate County Officer. Lancashire County Council (LCC) – has a Code of Conduct. As an employer, service provider and provider of public functions we have responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty. The Equality Act 2010 has defined nine protected characteristics: age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and marriage and civil partnership status. We have a duty to Eliminate discrimination”.
