Riots At WLBC Meeting Tonight

OWLs are asking “Who called the POLICE at tonight’s Council meeting?” It wasn’t OWL Councillors, we can confirm that much! ‘A lot of anger’ doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling at tonight’s meeting,

West Lancs Labour’s proposed Local Plan was given the ‘welcome’ you might expect at this evening’s meeting . After demands for Councillors names, and attempts to press on without listening to residents failed, some Councillors walked out! The crowd were increasingly angry that no one seemed prepared to listen. There was shouting and banging.

Order was eventually restored, after 5 Police cars turned up. As far as we know there were no arrests! It’s all going on in Ormskirk this evening! Expect to hear more from us in the coming days. No OWLs were harmed.

Report and pics from OWL website.

Responses

  1. Reminiscent of the last Local Plan public meetings, when the peaceful public had the police called on them by gutless councillors! Come to think of it, the only thing that has changed since then is control of the council. Tories ruined West Lancs last time and rightly got booted out. West Lancs Labour? No different from vile tories.

    • Yes, the days of the grim reaper! Mind you, last time the police were called before the crowd were allowed in, 50 limit as I recall. But this is the whole of West Lancashire in revolt. No surprise there then?

  2. The ‘OWL’s aka Adrian Owens’ bandwagon knew full well what he was attempting to orchestrate which was to totally disrupt proceedings in order to further his personal political agenda. From his initial listing on Facebook as ‘A Meeting of the Council will take place’ and encouraging people to show up and show their strength of feeling to openly laughing and sneering when Officers were shouted down and attacked. The Leader was spat at. I was called a’liar’. These are not the actions of concerned community activists but an attempt at mob rule. There were people in the chamber who were rightly appalled at the shenanigans. This was a meeting of Cabinet not a free for all shouting and bawling match and those who should know better should have acted in a more responsible manner, I don’t care how strong the feelings are running, there is no excuse for such behaviour and I call on Adrian Owens to condemn those actions. We opposed the last Local Plan but never, ever stooped to such tactics and would never do so, but that is the difference between people of political integrity and someone with the politics of the gutter. Shame. I am happy to come and discuss with any individual or group of people the proposals but I am not prepared to treated as an Aunt Sally just so someone can try and score cheap political points.
Regards, Cllr. JE Hodson. Portfolio for Planning. WLBC

    • You don’t think the community is concerned? I won’t reply to accusations of politics of the gutter, that’s for others to respond to. But this new Local Plan is too much, too soon. Perhaps West Lancashire needs a “Local Plan Referendum”?

    • This is unacceptable comment Mr Marshall. Please moderate your remarks within a few hours or the comment will be deleted.

  3. Do these idiots in the council not realise how angry residents are over the new local plan! West Lancs is the only council in the country who want a 30 yr plan, others are 15 yrs. We have 9yrs to run on the current plan. I salute all the residents who went last night, if these idiots can’t take criticism they should get out (seems they did) as the saying in Dad’s Army goes “they don’t like it up em”. It seems no one has ever seen Councillor Moran move so fast! Well done the local residents.

    • It seems we have idiots in front of us, to the left of us, and to the right of us. All over the place, apparently. It reminds me of a US general, whose name I can’t remember, who said “We’ve been looking for the enemy for some time now. We’ve finally found him. We’re surrounded”. And so we are. As a devotee of Dad’s Army I see a resemblance to many of the characters to many of our elected members. I dare not identify them, they might sue me. But, without doubt, they do not like it up ’em!

    • Well said Joan. It appears the champagne socialists have lost touch with people completely now. And showing open contempt, to boot. Let’s hope people remember this at the ballot box.
