Theresa May Is Upset And Disappointed?

Theresa May will be upset and disappointed with Wally Westley today as Labour turned West Lancashire a deeper shade of red . His “follow me I’m leading us unto oblivion” style seems to be a game in which the players must repeat the actions of the lemmings. Lemmings are small creatures with wild reputations. Instinct, it is said, drives them to kill themselves whenever their population becomes unsustainably large. Seems apt.

In June 2014 there was no overall control with Lab/Cons 27 each 2014/15. By 2016 the council was Tory 22 seats Labour 31 seats and OWL 1 seat. Today, West Lancs Borough Council is under stronger Labour Control with 19 Conservative seats , 33 Labour and 2 seats for Our West Lancashire.

In May 2015 the former leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, David Westley attacked the new leader, Ian Moran, calling his election a “socialist coup.” The Tory councillor made the comments following the Council AGM. Cllr Westley told the press “The Council AGM saw the success of a left wing and unreformed socialist coup with the election of a new Labour Leader of the Council and the appointment of a Cabinet stuffed full with Trade Union activists.

“The Labour Group turned out to be something of a wolf in sheep’s clothing when they ditched their previous Leader Cllr Roger Bell, a moderate and former LibDem member. Any voter who voted for Rosie Cooper MP, another ex-LibDem, and thought her moderate politics were reflected in the Council’s Labour Group will be in for a nasty shock and may feel there has been a breach of the Trades Description Act.”

The leader of the Conservative group said Cllr Moran has already given a clear indication of his “socialist dogma” when in his acceptance speech he made reference to ‘growing the Council’. This followed on from the public statement by Cllr Wynn, Finance Portfolio Holder, in which he lamented the reduction in the number of staff employed by the Council, brought about by the cost saving measures of the previous Conservative Administration. Cllr Westley said “The Labour Group gained control of the council on the back of Rosie Cooper’s very professional and publicly funded PR team and without ever setting out a manifesto or declaring where they stand on the important local issues.

“The Conservative vote was squeezed by UKIP whose Parliamentary candidate, after being suspended for racist remarks has since joined the BNP, and OWL (gaining seats!) is less of a political party and more about failed political ambition together with an ill thought out set of policies designed to grab a headline than bear serious consideration.

“I was pleased to be re-elected Leader of the Conservative Group and am determined to hold the Labour Administration to account.

“The Conservatives will be an effective opposition and will fight tooth and nail to preserve the Council’s cost effective frontline services and resolutely resist Labour imposing unnecessary increases in Council Tax”. Or be a sheep in sheep’s clothing?
