Aughton Parish Council Dosh Discussion

The Aughton Parish Council (APC) holds cash and short term investments now up to £109,239 while regularly charging parishioners circa £56,000+ annual precept.

APC announced an “ESTIMATES MEETING (Full Council) – as previously notified. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A MEETING OF THE PARISH COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, 31 JANUARY 2018, IN AUGHTON VILLAGE HALL ANNEXE, COMMENCING AT 8.00PM TO CONSIDER THE ESTIMATES FOR 2018/2019.
AGENDA

1. APOLOGIES – to receive

2. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST – if a member requires advice on Declarations of Interest, he/she should contact the Clerk in advance of the meeting.

3. REFERENDUM PRINCIPLES AND PRECEPTS – to note.

4. WEST LANCASHIRE BOROUGH COUNCIL PARISH SUPPORT GRANT & LOCALISED COUNCIL TAX SUPPORT SYSTEM: a) to confirm Concurrent Grant Funding and the current approach to the Precept calculation b) General (Administration etc) to be Parish Funded c) Concurrent – Parish/Borough Funded d) Other Expenditure – to be Parish Funded.

5. TO CONSIDER AND APPROVE THE LEVEL OF PRECEPT NECESSARY TO MEET PARISH EXPENDITURE AND TO CARRY OUT CONCURRENT FUNCTIONS IN THE PARISH (Concurrent Functions are those functions which can be exercised by the Borough Council and/or the Parish Council and the power to contribute towards Expenditure is under s136 of the Local Government Act 1972).

Parishioners will have noted the lack of the usual notice of “PUBLIC QUESTION TIME – at a convenient time, normally after the opening of the meeting, the Chairman will adjourn the meeting (for a short interval at his discretion) to allow any members of the public who are resident in Aughton (or such other persons in the Chairman’s absolute discretion) to address the meeting”. It would appear to be a case of closed shop while APC justifies the ritual demand of another £56,000+ it doesn’t need. Talking of item 3 referendum principles…hmmm!
