Carl Eaton Award

WLBC decided “That, pursuant to its powers under Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council grant the honour of the Freedom of the Borough upon Mr Carl Eaton, founder of Skem Menaces, in recognition of the eminent service he has rendered to the community and the Borough of West Lancashire”.

Carl Eaton  is the founder of the Skem Menaces Disability Football Club, which has helped to raise more than £50,000 for various charities and good causes. Carl, who was born with Spina Bifida and is a right leg amputee, was inspired to organise the football club in 2009 due to a lack of sports activities available for people with learning disabilities in Skelmersdale.

The club has also received the Points of Light Award  from the then Prime Minister David Cameron and were awarded the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local volunteer groups in the UK. This was the scene at the Council meeting last night  for the inspirational Carl Eaton.
