Latest Meetings Bloody Meetings

The WLBC Chief Executive’s Update. Over the last few weeks work on key projects and elections has continued to be uppermost. On Monday 24 April I held my periodic Annual Council Planning meeting with Terry Broderick, Borough Solicitor, Jacky Denning, Assistant Member Services Manager, Ann England, Civic PA and Jill Ryan, Member Services/Civic Support Officer.

Tuesday 25 April saw the fourth meeting of the Skelmersdale Place Board, Chaired by Steve Jones from Fairbanks Environmental, and it was good to receive updates from Tracey Shaw, Business Engagement Officer and Caroline Addison, Senior Economic Regeneration Officer, on progress in developing the Skelmersdale Ambassadors initiative, and plans for a Skelmersdale website.

On Wednesday 26 April, I attended the Lancashire Public Services Board; part of the Shadow Combined Authority arrangements. Also on Wednesday 26 April I attended Council, and a number of matters were agreed, including the Council Plan 2017-18. This Plan informs service action plans, and development appraisals for staff which take place over the spring/summer, and can be found on the Council’s website.

On Thursday 27 April I was pleased to take part in an exploratory discussion, one of a series with a number of Chief Executives from neighbouring and North West towns, to talk about the role towns can play in the Northern Powerhouse.

Also on Thursday 27 April I held my regular Elections Planning meeting with Terry Broderick, Matthew Jones, Legal and Member Services Manager, Tom Lynan, Electoral and Administration Services Manager and Susanne Malmgren, Senior Electoral and Administration Officer. On Tuesday 2 May, together with key staff involved in the Lancashire County Council elections, I briefed Presiding Officers in advance of election day.

On Wednesday 3 May, I held the planned briefing of supervisory staff involved in the Lancashire County Council election and count process. Thursday 4 May saw voters across Lancashire going to the polls for the Lancashire County Council 2017 elections. In West Lancashire, elections to seats in the eight County Divisions within West Lancashire were held.

Also on Thursday 4 May, I received the Writ for the Parliamentary elections on Thursday, 8 June 2017 (pictured below with Otis Honey, a representative of the Royal Mail) .

The boxes and postal votes for the election were received at Burscough Sports Centre on the evening of Thursday 4 May, with the verification and count process undertaken from 10 am on Friday 5 May. Elections are always very much a team effort and I am grateful to all those involved in the election, and in maintaining Council services during the election period. Particular thanks go to our elections team Tom Lynan, Susanne Malmgren, Mark Leather, Dave Hughes, Dawn Ashcroft, Elaine Arends and Kate Goodwin.

The results of the Lancashire County Council elections in West Lancashire can be found by visiting the Borough Council’s website.
