Tory County Candidates

The next County Council Elections are in May 2017 and at long last, the thumbscrews possibly having been applied, the Tory candidate for Skelmersdale West is announced. Step forward Jenni Mayer mayer, the voluntary paper candidate wherever and whenever needed. What a record.

In March 2011 during happier times for local Conservatives there was a good turnout in what was Jenni Mayer’s last official event as Association Chairman mayerpic2011. She was stepping down after a successful three years in the role. Mrs Mayer said “We were delighted to welcome Paul Maynard MP to West Lancashire. He gave a fascinating talk about life at Westminster and how he has battled his disability to represent his constituents in the House of Commons. My three years as Association Chairman have been extremely eventful and of course we had a General Election in that time in which our candidate worked tirelessly and cut Labour’s majority. We have also brought through a number of younger councillors and candidates who will take the party forward in the future. I would like thank everyone who has worked with my closely over the past three years, especially my husband Martin who acted as agent during the General Election and has been a tower of strength to me”. Mayer stood in the 2016 borough election at Skelmersdale South and was soundly beaten by Labour.

How times have changed. So, what a line-up, ready to set the county alight…Ormskirk Cllr Wally Westley; West Lancs East Cllr Paul Greenall; West Lancs West.Cllr David O’Toole; Burscough and Rufford Cllr Eddie Pope; Skelmersdale East George Pratt; Skelmersdale Central Cllr Sailor Sam Currie; Skelmersdale West Jenni Mayer.

And how disappointing not to see steady Eddy McCarthy standing for election. Is this the end of his political ambitions without one last fling?
