Police Object To Later Opening Hours At The Junk

Our West Lancashire Cllr Adrian Owens adriannhs reports on The Junk junk. He writes “It’s good to see that the police, having had concerns about the operation of The Junk in Ormskirk (given the DPS – the person in charge of the premises is based in Tewkesbury 140 miles away perhaps problems at the premises were unsurprising!) are objecting to the proposed increased opening hours that the operator is seeking. The Licensing Committee will hear the case on January 24th. In particular, the police are objecting to the proposal to seek to open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

“The various authorities haven’t always given sufficient consideration to the needs of residents to get a good night’s sleep and back in the autumn the Chairman of a local residents’ group had a letter published in one of the local papers bemoaning the “hands off” approach adopted. I’ve certainly criticised the police in the past, so equally I will say well done now.

“The police are taking a proactive approach to ensure that those on a night out can have an enjoyable yet safe time and that at the ame time residents are not further disturbed by yet more late night opening. This is especially important given that neighbourhood police are usually off duty at pub chucking out time and the police vehicle patrols are often elsewhere. Licensing Committee please take note and support the police”.
