Poke A Sleeping Dog

To paraphrase a well known Conservative Constituency agent “West Lancashire Record cannot see a sleeping dog without needing to poke it with a stick to see how angry it is when it wakes up”.

Or sometimes it might be a “pig in a poke” which we all know is something bought without the buyer knowing its true nature or value, especially when buying without inspecting the item beforehand. All of which seems apt to the selection of a candidate for Hesketh-with-Becconsall prior to the election in May 2016.

There was a Conservative Party Review in 2016 which reflected the more modern attitude to selection and or re-selection of local government candidates. It stated that “The Association should maintain an approved list of local government candidates and have a selection process in place that is according to the rules supplied by CCHQ. All candidates (including sitting councillors) are required to submit forms for inclusion on the Approved list and a file of these should be maintained”. These, below, are the WLR version of the Hesketh-with-Becconsall case papers. [click both to read] moonpigpoke-001 toryreview1-001
