Missing Moon?

WLBC wlbclogo records show that on 24th November 2016 the Executive Overview & Scrutiny Committee met and that Hesketh-with-Becconsall ward Cllr Moon was present.

Wyre BC wyre records show that on 24th November 2016 the Licensing Committee of Wyre Borough Council met and that Preesall ward Cllr Moon wasn’t present.

So is part-timing two-hatting two-allowances Cllr Moon balancing his commitments to local democracy and his local electorate in such a way as to demean the public offices he holds? As he dodges and weaves his way through the meetings diaries collecting joint allowances and seemingly receiving no criticism for it from the West Lancashire opposition leader Wally Westley we wonder if he is in it for the money, the public money?

Perchance you wonder how important matters in Hesketh-with-Becconsall are to the electorate there, consider that at the WLBC Planning Committee last night an item of extreme importance was being discussed, the reserved matters of the proposed building of 212 houses on the Henry Alty Ltd land in Hesketh Bank. Local residents attended and spoke with a passion that stirred the council chamber full with standing room only into murmurs of agreement, local democracy in full voice. But where was Cllr Moon? Not being a member of the WLBC planning committee you might think he was at one of his homes counting his allowances? But what will he now be able to say to those residents of Hesketh-with-Becconsall who elected him about the decision to defer the proposal? Nothing. They might just as well read unpaid and allowance free WLR!

I attended last night especially to hear about the Granville Park Conservation Area item. After the usual preambles I thought I would be home in time for an early cocoa, but fate dealt me a bad hand. I heard Cllr O’Toole declare he lived in Granville Park and his home was a pecuniary matter so he would leave the chamber but damn it all he was representing local residents and it was undemocratic that he couldn’t do so but Wally Westley would represent his and their views. Thereafter my endurance was stretched to the limits and beyond. Time ticked by to the extent that after three hours and the Granville Park matter nowhere in sight my will to live forced me to leave the chamber. The advantage in doing so was missing whatever Wally Westley had to say. Every cloud has a silver lining?

As for democracy, mentioned by Cllr O’Toole, it was a matter of priority for one elected member for Hesketh-with-Becconsall, Ashcroft, but not for the other. Doesn’t a councillor recall facility start to interest us? It ought to.

  1. Does this constitute as “moonlighting”?

    • I suppose it does, having a second job is, but moonlighting is usually secretly performed. Come to think of it, the electorate of Hesketh-with-Becconsall weren’t told about his first job in Wyre, so yes it’s “moonlighting”.
