Aughton Railway Bridge Hit By Car

Around 11.20pm on Friday (November 4), an Audi RS3 Quattro was travelling towards Town Green Railway Station when the vehicle collided with a railway bridge close to the junction of Town Green Lane and Middlewood Road town-green-lane_298x192.

All occupants made off from the scene before police arrived. A short time later, a man and woman attended Fazakerley Hospital with head injuries. Police were called and the man, who suffered a significant injury to his forehead, was arrested in connection with the collision in Aughton.

The woman, aged 28 and from the Lydiate area, suffered a fractured left eye socket and serious head injury which required surgery. A 20-year-old woman from Lydiate, who later attended hospital, suffered a graze to her neck and bruising to the left side of her head.

Officers believe those injured were in the Audi at the time of the collision. The road was closed for more than two hours while accident investigators attended.

Police are appealing for information following the incident. Sgt Tracey Ward, of Lancashire Police, said “We have launched an investigation following a road traffic collision in Aughton. A 28-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries and we want to establish exactly what happened. If you saw the Audi before the incident, or witnessed the collision, please contact us.” Contact details call 101 quoting log reference 1495 of November 4.
