How Not To Obtain One Free Apple Tree But Obtain A Free Orchard

This is a true case.
Applicant to WLBC…”I would like to apply for a free tree bramley and poppy seeds please”.

WLBC to applicant one day later…”Sadly, the scheme has now closed but I will put you on the reserve list for un-collected trees. Hopefully I will be back in touch around the end of December”.

Applicant to WLBC…”I thought my application came within the valid dates. Has it closed early? Also, how many people will be allowed free trees?”

WLBC to applicant…”The press didn’t mention that it was first come first served and it went through the roof in the first week. We closed it Friday lunchtime as we had exceeded this years’ budget. We had a total of 379 applications”.

But in a Conservation Area one private householder can request a grant of up to 50% to a maximum of £1,000 for planting trees, orchards and hedgerows. Our applicant wants one tree not an orchard. As WLBC stated “There is a limit to the number of trees and seeds available so they will be allocated on a ‘first come first serve’ basis”. There is no budget limit on Conservation Area Grants. Our applicant will have to buy his Bramley apple pie bramleypie rather than bake it!
