Ashurst Councillor Gail Hodson

Gail Hodson gailhod1 has been reselected by the Labour Party to contest the West Lancashire Borough Council elections on May 5th. A resident of West Lancashire for over 30 years, Gail has three children and runs her own business.

Before going into business, Gail worked as a coach and mentor delivering apprenticeships in the adult learning sector. She has always been very community focused, having sat as a Parish Councillor for 8 years and helped develop the first village plan in Lancashire.

Over the past four years, Gail has prioritised environmental work in the area, working locally and nationally to tackle the causes of climate change which can have lasting effects for the lives of our children, and helped to set up Frack Free Skelmersdale and many other groups in Lancashire to oppose the massive threat of fracking gailhod2 in our community.

Gail has also been an active opponent of the Whitemoss Landfill Site extension, and is supporting the Borough Council’s allocation of money to support the fight. In the ward, she has supported residents with issues over council tax, refuse collection and has worked with the local police to increase patrols in the area.

She said about her reselection that “It’s been a tough four years on the council being in opposition for so long but now as part of the Labour team in control I’m proud of all that we are achieving for Ashurst, for Skelmersdale, and for West Lancashire. The recent rollout of solar panels for council stock goes some way to meeting our climate change targets, as well as saving tenants money on fuel bills. Progress has been made on the town centre redevelopment and it’s clear that the Conservatives don’t care whatsoever about this town”.
